What are the benefits of unlocking?

Will all iPhone functionality remain after unlocking?

Your unlocked phone will work exactly the same as your locked phone. Most functions, such as the web-browser, e-mail client, music player, and the included Yahoo, Google, and Youtube widgets will operate correctly, though some may need reconfiguration. However, visual voicemail is a feature specific to Cingular's network. Instead, the voicemail button on your iPhone will send you immediately to your carrier's default voicemail line

 

Is unlocking my Apple iPhone legal?

Unlocking your Apple iPhone is legal in the US and most western european countries. In the US, unlocking was specifically made legal in 2003 by the Copyright Office. The Copyright office approved an exemption to the DMCA's anti-circumvention pretections. This exemption allows circumvention of device controls "for the sole purpose of lawfully connecting to a wireless telephone communication network.” Any unlocking solutions that we release will be designed specifically to perform this function: bypass Apple's network lock - thereby allowing you to use your phone with another SIM card from a different wireless network.

 

How soon will the software be ready?

We are monitoring and working closely with a number of different programming groups to bring you an iPhone unlocking solution as soon as possible. We are now very close to having an unlock solution available, and programmers are testing end-user clients for the unlocking process.
